Sun Open Sources Java

I suppose that all of you have already heard this. I've hadn't. In any case, I think it's wonderful news.

Wow!

A bunch of the Solaris code is open. I don't have any idea how much that is helping the company in the market place. We will see if it helps with Java. It might help the GNU people implementat a compatable version.

Sun is a strange company. Their hardware rocks! Their OS has some pretty cool features!

Java has a "bloated and inconsistent / design by commity" reputation and compatability problems over platforms and versions.

Sun does not seem to be able to hire marketing people who can count. Version numbers are confusing (Java, SunOS).

It can be hard to actually buy one of their awesome servers. At my last job we waited for months for a T1000. It is the loudest 1U (or even 2, 3, or 4 U) server I have ever heard. It runs several threads very well.

Well at least their hardware rocks.

Apparently, it won't actually be released until 2007 sometime.
